Dog Training
At Gold Country Pet Resort & Training Center we want you to enjoy owning your dog.
Dog ownership should be joyful, not a source of stress and frustration. We have comprehensive obedience programs, and dog training services designed to help you reach your goals.
Individual or Group?
While we believe group work is critical, we know how overwhelming it can be for both dogs and owners to start that way. Ever been in a group that moves too fast for you? Or too slow? We know. We can solve that problem.
We have comprehensive obedience programs designed to help you reach your goals. Each program begins with a combination of video-based instruction coupled with private lessons (either in person or virtual for our distance learners.) This ensures both you and your dog learn and get tools on board before you do any group work.
We focus on individual instruction through private lessons so that we can tailor each dog’s program to their specific needs. That way each person/dog gets to work at their own pace. No more feeling lost in a large class or feeling like it is moving to slow for you and your dog!
Once you and your dog are ready then we start group work, either here at our facility or if you are doing it online, we have designed a program for that.
We have both in-person and online courses available for most of the types of training that we teach. If you are unsure of what needs you or your dog have, please make an assessment appointment and we’ll be in touch.
Our Philosophy in Training is Simple
Do what works. Do what makes sense. We will never ask you to do something that you don’t feel comfortable with. We believe in building a strong positive foundation between dog and owner. We do that by teaching the basic fundamentals of clear communication with your dog. When we get clear concise communication, training becomes a breeze.
We have a clear system of communication that we teach. We want to teach the dogs what we expect of them through a reward-based method so that the they are clear about our expectations. But, at some point, any dog will push the limits and the owner needs to set firm and clear boundaries.
Above all, the relationship between dog and owner should be based on mutual respect. Training should be fun! Spending time with your dog should be fun, and we can help put the fun back into your relationship.
Specialty Training
In addition to helping people reach their family obedience goals, we offer several different types of specialty training.
- Does your dog have reactivity or aggression issues?
- Do you want to learn how to compete in Obedience Trials?
- Do you want to train your Service Dog?
We can help you with any of these specialized dog training requirements!
Training without YOU
We do get a lot of requests to train people’s dogs for them. While we feel strongly that the ideal situation is for us to help you learn to train your dog, we fully recognize with the impact of today’s busy lifestyle, many people just prefer that we do it for them. We offer residential training to accommodate those that need that assistance. Our Board and Train programs still need your involvement, but it can definitely shorten the time to reach your goals!
