SUMMARY:Barnhunt 101
DESCRIPTION:Barn Hunting is a cool sport that has swept the nation and it’s not just for terriers. Taken as an offshoot from the original AKC “Earth Dog” Competition\, Barn Hunt was started to broaden the sport for all competitors and just small terrier breeds. \nThis is the first step in Barn Hunt and a great place to start if you and your dog are interested in the sport. This class is designed to introduce dogs to the sport and build the foundation for the Alert.  Students will stay in this class until they are satisfied that their dog can accurately tell them when they have found the rat!  After that\, it will be time to move to Barnhunt 201; Search Strategy. \nSign up for Barnhunt 101 here \nPlease be aware that once the class is full\, the date longer show on the signup link above.  You may pick a different date\, or keep checking back\, as sometimes\, people adjust their dates and a spot will open up the week prior to class. \nPlease bring your dog\, a long line (if you have it-no worries if you don’t)…and their favorite treats (some dogs don’t need them\, but many do). \n

DESCRIPTION:This is a great class to get started in the cool sport of ScentWork. Whether you are looking for an activity to do at home to keep your dogs busy mind occupied or you want to get out and compete with your dog\, this is a good starting spot. Scentwork is an amazing “brain game” for the dogs. Whether your goal is to find an activity to help expend some (mental) energy for your dog at home\, or whether you want to enter the world of dog sports\, this is the place to start.  People will learn how to pair the scent to the odor and also discuss the advantages of a creating an alert if desired.  This is a good class to repeat until you feel that you have a solid indication to odor without the use of a “food lure” but are clearly on “food rewards”. \nClick Here to sign up. \n  \nMake sure you bring your dogs favorite treats (something they don’t get often\, a harness if you have it (don’t worry if you don’t) and preferably a 6-10 foot leash. \n

SUMMARY:CWC 101 & CWC 201
DESCRIPTION:Communicate with Clarity 101 & Communicate with Clarity 201\nThis in person skills class is an adjunct to our online course\, Communicate with Clarity\, where both Aspiring Trainers and Pet Owners\, Service Dog Prospect Owners\, and Schutzhund/IGP competitors who desire excellence in obedience come to learn. Students can come to get eyes on their skills to ensure that they are building their mechanics properly when introducing a new cue. The students start in our online sessions in Communicate with Clarity 101\, where students are learning how to develop communications systems based upon how dogs learn best. While there is robust online support\, some students naturally prefer to come in person to have their learning mechanics assessed and this is the place to do that! Students will work one at a time for a few minutes during the class to demonstrate the mechanics they are developing and receive feedback on strengths and areas of improvement. All students may participate in each students learning session. Dogs will remain in vehicles/crates\, until it is their turn\, in order to minimize distractions at this stage of training. \nWhat this class is NOT. This is not a group class where all dogs are out at once. There is no/minimal lecture (other than individual feedback). All students are expected to come to work on the specific skill that they are working to complete in the 101 (and then the 201) module. They are expected to have listened to the lectures and be clear about what skill they are working on (Based on what skills they have already achieved badges for and which badge they are working on) We can help students build the training plans for class during our online Q&A times. \n  \nSchedule Appointment\n \n

SUMMARY:CWC 301: Group Class at Training Field
DESCRIPTION:Communicate with Clarity 301: \nThis class is a part of our core obedience program\, Communicate with Clarity. Students must have completed the skills in both CWC 101 and CWC 201 before coming to this class. This is the class where we focus on putting together all of the skills we learned in the prior courses and start doing things with distractions. In the first two courses\, we focused on learning in a quiet environment\, but now we are bringing those cues into the distractions. This class focuses on doing that with an emphasis on understanding threshold and focusing on learning where your dogs threshold is and decreasing it so that you can easily work around others. \nThis class focuses on bringing fluency amongst the distractions of the other dogs. All dogs work on the field\, doing individually appropriate cues (bed\, down\, loose lead walking\, etc…). Instructor works with one dog at a time to advance them on the cues with the distractions at whatever level they are working on. All other students may listen and learn from the Individual coaching\, and students may be grouped together who are doing “like” work\, but each dog team will get individualized time during the class. Students should come prepared with an understanding of what they want help to work on (game plan can be established with instructor ahead of time)\, but only the student knows what they were able to work on during the week and where they may have struggled. The goal is to have each person moving forward each class session. The overall focus of this class is to master your cues (skills) under distractions) \nThis class be continuously used as students advance to introduce new cues from our “Skills” library in a controlled environment\, once they have completed their basic cues. It is the appropriate place for our specialty students to work on their advanced cues\, once they have finished teaching the behavior and want to introduce those cues under distraction.  Once you have mastered the basic cues in this class\, then student will begin attending the CWC 401 “Out and Abouts” and take their skills into the community. \n
