SUMMARY:Barnhunt 101: Creating the Alert!
DESCRIPTION:Barn Hunting is a cool new sport sweeping the nation and it’s not just for terriers. Taken as an offshoot from the original AKC “Earth Dog” Competition\, Barn Hunt was started to broaden the sport for all competitors and just small terrier breeds. \nThis is the first step in Barn Hunt and a great place to start if you and your dog are interested in the sport. This class is designed to introduce dogs to the sport and build the foundation for the Alert.  Students will stay in this class until they are satisfied that their dog can accurately tell them when they have found the rat!  After that\, it will be time to move to Barnhunt 201; Search Strategy. \nSign up for Barnhunt 101 here \nPlease be aware that once the class is full\, the date longer show on the signup link above.  You may pick a different date\, or keep checking back\, as sometimes\, people adjust their dates and a spot will open up the week prior to class. \nPlease bring your dog\, a long line (if you have it-no worries if you don’t)…and their favorite treats (some dogs don’t need them\, but many do). \nThis class is eligible for the Gold Country Working Dog Member Discount.

SUMMARY:Scent Work 101: Pairing the Scent
DESCRIPTION:This is a great class to get started in the cool sport of ScentWork. Whether you are looking for an activity to do at home to keep your dogs busy mind occupied or you want to get out and compete with your dog\, this is a good starting spot. Scentwork is an amazing “brain game” for the dogs. Whether your goal is to find an activity to help expend some (mental) energy for your dog at home\, or whether you want to enter the world of dog sports\, this is the place to start.  People will learn how to pair the scent to the odor and also discuss the advantages of a creating an alert if desired.  This is a good class to repeat until you feel that you have a solid indication to odor without the use of a “food lure” but are clearly on “food rewards”. \nClick Here to sign up. \n  \nMake sure you bring your dogs favorite treats\, a harness if you have it (don’t worry if you don’t) and preferably a 6-10 foot leash. \nGold Country Working Dog Club Member Discount available.

SUMMARY:GCWDC Training Time; Scent Sports; Obedience
DESCRIPTION:This event is solely for Gold Country Working Dog Club Members. This is for club members to train in the Barnhunt Ring or on the Obedience Field with whatever sports (except for protection and dock diving) they desire. Rats will be available for training; nosework training can be done\, obedience\, tracking. There is for club members to work together to improve their skills. If you want to do barnhunt\, please ensure to let us know how many rats you want to ensure are available. You will have access to the club house and all club equipment for all other training. \nClick Here to sign up. \nYou MUST be a current member of Gold Country Working Dog Club to participate in this activity. If you are not a member\, you will be removed from the session and no refund will be given. If you are not sure if you are a member\, feel free to contact our office. SUMMARY:Open Dock
DESCRIPTION:This is a great time to practice your dock diving skills. This is an unstaffed group event. Each person who comes for open dock just takes turns with the others. If there are several people\, turns are limited to 3-4 minutes per turn. This is a great time to meet other dock divers and get and give some help to each other. This event is “Unstaffed” and thus your dog must either have a recorded jump off a dock or you must have taken a Dock Diving 101 class and have instructor approval. SUMMARY:Obedience Drop In Class
DESCRIPTION:This Drop In Obedience Session is only available to current and past Board and Train and Coaching Program Clients.  This class is a part of our larger training program and is limited to those students. Students in this class have already mastered the basics in an individual setting. This is the time to practice skills that were learned in our private sessions with the group distractions. This is set up as a workshop and each person will have a chance to work on individual skills. SUMMARY:GCWDC:  IPO/Schutzhund
DESCRIPTION:Gold Country Working Dog Club meets for IGP (IPO formerly Schutzhund) training. Depending on the week\, we will focus either on the Fundamentals of Protection taught by Cherie Flores. \nWe also have helpers come into the facility for seminars and to do advanced protection work. Those dates will be added seperately. You can sign up for the Fundamentals of Protection  At the root of all things in the IPO sport is obedience and clarity of drive. The fundamentals can and should be taught in a thoughtful manner.  In this class we prepare our dogs to be ready for the helper\, but most of the work is done here so that when we have a helper come in\, the transition is extremely smooth.  Schedule Appointment  \nYou may arrive up 30-60 minutes prior to class to work on your obedience on the field prior to protection. \n  \n
